Hanumat Express Dispatch

Kapi-dvaja Trikrama-mas Sukla-paksa (7.2) - 2008 May 18 The Anjana Suta Academy Sankirtana Forum.

Edited by Hanumatpresaka Swami et al. Dedicated to Srila Prabhupada. (Est. 1979 May – Formerly Monkey Business Magazine and Hanuman Express Dispatch).

*WANDERING MISCREANTS*
2008 June 17 - Hare Krsna, Dudes! AGTSP! Paoho. toM broWn, Monkey, still here. How are you? We’re still in the b’cari ashrama about 45-minutes from the Kremlin. It’s forest and big green fields, grey skies with flickering Sun baths, cold and cloistered behind ten foot fences. Every day we give two hours of class to the Bhakti Vaibhava students. That takes at least two hours of preparation. We’re doin’ pretty good. Hard work for diet, regular sadhana etc.

July 1st we return to Spain, so the next KD (formerly the HED) will be from Spain.

Our main focus is to catch Krsna in our heart and never let Him escape!! Haw! Haw! Haw!

HpSwami – Thank you Tom. Actually, yes, it has been really intense here. There are 40-b’caris in the Ashrama so it is a very strong situation. We have made a lot of progress in purifying our hearts. We are not the same people we were a few weeks ago. Forward…

Our writing focus seems to have clarified a lot. We really did a lot of work on writing a book, Minding Monkey, but the result has been that we have followed the instruction in the book and stopped writing books.

First we just want to chant Hare Krsna. That’s all we ever have wanted to do. So, we make little progress and little progress year after year. Always coming back to the goal. If the Maha-mantra wants to write a book then O.K!

But its seems that we should write something: 1) The K.D. still bi-monthly. 2) Diary of a Traveling Creature (DTC). Monkey is inexhaustible. But how should we publish? That’s always one of the biggest concerns for the Writer, no? So, for now, we will write electronic DTCs and post them on the Academy web page: www.JayaRama.US/dtc They will just be by final date. There may be one or one-hundred a month. Monkeys are always jumping. 3) The Good Gorilla King, as Mr. Brown also sometimes fancies himself, is also hand-writing letters and pamphlets, Letters from a Traveling Creature. This happens because often there is no good computer access and honestly computers are never all that good at their best. It’s hard to beat paper and pen, and glue and rulers and…. If you’d like one of these LTCs, just submit your request along with your regular mail address.

Later if something broader develops, O.K.

*CALENDAR*
Always on the Web Page. It’s the Spain farm from July 1-4th, Madrid for the weekend and then Barcelona 7-14th. After that is the North American Tour – San Jose, Berkeley, Boise, Houston, Mexico, Houston, Tennessee.

15th July India. Raktak is looking for rooms in Vraja still.
South America 25th December until Gaura-purnima.
Maybe we can get the tickets soon. Maybe not! Who knows, may be an economic collapse with the oil situation. Hare Krsna, Hare Rama.

*LETTERS TO THE EDITATOR*
1. Uncle Gismo is getting strict. No letters from beautiful girls unless there is a copy to their father, husband, brother or other adult guy. 2. Our current e-mail address is still jayarama108-jambavan@yahoo.com but will probably change when we hit the USA. 3. Telephone, paper mail adresses are always at Contact us on the Web Page. 4. You may have noticed that Opera, the Russian browser, doesn’t format stuff for the Web Page. 5. We may be stuck with weird e-mail connections, like $20/minute, so come to the point in poetical prose!

*PIGGY’S PARTING PEARLS*
- Abhirama Prabhu got us some info on shipping the LOB. From all we heard Oscar’s Manipuri/Peru shows were a big success . Guess ASAPP will get its money back and then ship the LOB. Brhad Mrdanga Ki Jai!

- Partha-sarthi Prabhu has about 45-more days and he is out of Iraq, out of the Army… Into?!

- Houston devotees are just now finishing their second Pada-padma course. We are writing a 2nd Canto Examination with Hari-lila Prabhu.

- Of course Monkey puts a lot more news poetry and articles in his DTCs and LTCs as listed above.

For example:

CHANT & READ by Tom Brown.
The Maha-mantra is a boat, That sails upon a sea.
The sea’s the words of Prabhupada, That he wrote for you and me.

New Yorkers Revel in Annual ISKCON Rath Yatra

NEW YORK: more than five thousand festival-goers braved the scattered thunderstorms and downpours to attend the annual Ratha Yatra parade and Festival of India. The all-day event, put on by the New York chapter of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), began with a colorful procession of three 40-foot high traditional Indian chariots, bearing sacred images of Lord Krishna, pulled by hand down Fifth Avenue.

The festivities continued at Washington Square Park, with a traveling mela showcasing India’s spirituality and culture, and featuring a stage-show, display booths, and a “bazaar-style” outdoor market. There was no admission fee, and visitors were treated to a complimentary multi-course vegetarian feast of rice, puris, subji, halava, burfi, and lemonade. ISKCON served approximately eight thousand people the hot, freshly prepared food. “Several police officers assigned to the parade told me that this is their favorite day to work,” said Pragnesh Surti, a second-generation Hindu who served as a festival coordinator.

“They said that they had never seen a festival on this scale where everyone was so cooperative and respectful.” The parade managed to complete its route under sunny skies, but the afternoon festivities at Washington Square Park found festival-goers ducking under umbrellas, or seeking shelter from the rain in the many colorful tents and display booths set up.”As they say in Hollywood, the show must go on,” joked Ramabhadra Dasa, president of the ISKCON temple in Brooklyn, New York, as performers took to the rain-slicked stage despite the storms.

The rain, however, had been the least of the devotees’ worries when they were organizing the festival several months ago; renovations in Washington Square Park meant that ISKCON would not be granted its usual festival site. Determined, the devotees appealed to the community board to be granted an alternate site in the park.

Though board members were hesitant at first, when they learned of ISKCON’s practice of serving free meals to one and all, they voted unanimously to grant the permit. In 1976, Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the founder of the worldwide Hare Krishna Movement, inaugurated the New York City version of the ancient Hindu parade held yearly in Jagannath Puri. Since then, the festival has been gracing New York City for more than thirty years, and is one of only fifteen “traditional annual Fifth Avenue parades” that the City has allowed to continue despite new measures to limit processions down the world-famous street. Even the annual India Day Parade, held in August, is not granted this privilege.
